Patient Experience Volunteer


North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust are always looking at how we can enhance our patients experience whilst they are with us.  Patient Experience is at the heart of everything we do at our Trust and we are currently seeking volunteers to support our patients by working as part of a new team who will be central to the patient experience. Our aim is to ensure that our patients are getting the practical and emotional support they need and ensuring that they have an opportunity to talk about their time with us


Location: Hinchingbrooke Hospital

Days/Hours Required: Monday – Friday (10:00 - 14.00)


Main Tasks:

  •  Encouraging and helping patients to complete paper FFT (Friends & Family Test) Feedback Forms (both Inpatients and Outpatients)
  • Ensuring blank FFT Feedback Forms are visible, easily accessible, and well stocked, on all Wards for patients and their families and friends to be able to complete
  • Supporting Patient Experience projects by putting up posters and distributing resources to wards and departments (such as Patient Sleep Packs / Adams Rose Bereavement Bags)
  • Speaking to patients to see what is worrying them most and acting on this information accordingly (this may mean escalating to a senior member of staff, getting information about their illness or condition from our Info-Zone for them, calling their family or a friend for them to talk to etc)
  • Offering to sit with a patient and do a crossword or play dominoes to help them pass the time
  • Sitting and talking to patients offering companionship
  • Mealtime Support (helping hand out lunches, open packets or cartons for patients and ensuring everything is within reach)

NB: If Volunteers with to attend the enhanced Feeding + Hydration Training, they will be able to offer practical support to help patients who may need 1:1 assistance during mealtimes


Due to the amount of training, you will receive, we would like you to have a commitment of 6 months to volunteering.  You will need be proactive and have excellent communication skills and be able to approach people in a confident manner to begin conversations and be proactive

You will need to have an enhanced DBS check which will be paid for by the Trust
