   BOOK TROLLEY SERVICE VOLUNTEER

     Location: Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Huntingdon PE29 6NT

     Days / Hours required: Tuesdays + Wednesdays + Fridays (09:00 - 13:00)

 

We are looking for keen readers to help deliver our mobile Book Trolley Service to offer enrichment to our patient’s during their stay with us

 

     Main Tasks:

  • To be proactive in sourcing ongoing donations of books for our patients
  • To take in and organise donations of books for the mobile library
  • To set up the mobile library trolley and take it around to the Wards
  • To help patients in selecting an appropriate book to enrich their time
  • To ensure safe storage of the trolley and the books at the end of the shift
  • To clean down the trolley, boxes and equipment at the end of the shift in line with infection control guidance

 

  • Donations Suggestions:
  • Staff + Volunteers
  • Local Charity Shops who may have surplus
  • Local Libraries who may be decommissioning some of their books

 

     The Difference you will make:

This will be a lovely, sociable role for a keen reader to circulate around the Hospital offering our patients a book to enrich their time with us.  This role will enable the patient’s access to a variety of books to read to help pass the time and give them a holistic focus.  By giving patients the opportunity to read this will help reduce their stress as they will be pleasantly distracted whilst also increasing their alertness, both of which will help with patient motivation and mental stimulation

     Must be able to communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds and

     have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to walk a long distance around the Hospital

 

  • Friendly with good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Keen interest in reading and in people
  • Ability to work independently and under own iniative
  • Good organisational skills to set up the trolley, maintain the library storage and resource new books
