Central West (Orange) Shelter - Shelter Assistant

Our many dogs and puppies in Central West require daily love and care and we’re looking for shelter assistants to do just that! This volunteer role is suited to applicants who have previous canine experience, flourish in a busy environment and love a hands-on approach.  

  

 

What are the tasks? 

 

  • Working alongside and taking direction from animal attendants to assist in daily tasks such as walking dogs, cleaning kennels, providing enrichment, assisting in feeds, and spending kennel time with the dogs in our care
  • Use safe animal handling techniques and read animal behaviour to provide suitable and welfare-considered care for each individual animal
  • Reporting and communicating any signs of illness, injury or behaviour matters to animal attendants
  • Sorting and washing laundry 

 

 

What are the requirements? 

 

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Ability to lift 20kg
  • Previous animal experience (highly desirable)
  • Able to cope in high level noise and a busy environment
  • Confident in harnessing and walking a dog 

 

 

Time Commitment 

 

One day per week/fortnight Monday – Sunday between 9:00am – 3:00pm.  

 

Shifts available are: 

9:00am – 12:00pm or 1:00pm – 3:00pm

  4. Attend an orientation day with our volunteer coordinator/staff on-site
