Vet Nurse Emergency Response Volunteer NSW

 
RSPCA NSW is seeking dedicated volunteer vet Nurse’s to join our Emergency Response team. As a Volunteer Vet Nurse you will play a vital role in assisting and supporting both animals and pet owners affected by bushfires and other emergencies in NSW. Your primary responsibilities will be assisting to provide animal health checks at Evacuation centres and RSPCA Relief Points. 

 

This role is suited to applicants who are passionate about helping people and animals during times of emergency.  

 

What are the tasks?  

 

  • Conduct health assessments and triage animals impacted by emergencies.
  • Administer any essential medical treatment, and medications to animals and then refer to local vets for follow-up treatment if required/ possible. 
  • Collaborate with RSPCA NSW staff and other volunteers to create and maintain a safe and caring environment for animals. 
  • Observe animals for injury, illness and behavioural problems 
  • Assist with veterinary examinations 
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and disease control 
  • Offer guidance and support to pet owners regarding their animals' health and welfare. 
  • Provide friendly and empathetic support to pet owners, answering questions, addressing concerns, and offering guidance on caring for their animals during emergency situations.  
     
 

What are the requirements?  

 

  • Certificate IV in Vet Nursing or relevant qualifications 
  • Experience working in a team environment 
  • 1+ years’ experience working in a Vet Nurse capacity 
  • Ability to empathise and communicate with individuals experiencing hardship and trauma
  • Demonstrated affinity with animals and a commitment to animal welfare
  • Volunteers are needed on an as-needed basis during emergency situations. The time commitment may vary depending on the scale and urgency of relief efforts. Volunteers will be informed of deployment opportunities in advance. 
  • Volunteers could be required to lift heavy equipment and spend long periods of time standing
