Mission:

The Air Cadet Organisation (ACO), better known as the 'Air Cadets', is a UK-wide cadet force with more than 40,000 members aged between 12 and 20 years. We are sponsored, in part, by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and can give youth hands-on experience in activities and courses that will challenge and develop their skills to help them succeed in whatever they want to do.

 

261 (Guildford) Squadron Air Training Corps (ATC) aims to empower young people from the Guildford region and guide them in achieving their potential and aspirations.

 

Description:

A treasurer is required to join our squadron civilian committee with a particular emphasis on the book keeping side of our financial requirements. Ideally, we require a volunteer who could attend committee meetings (every 2 – 3 months). The Squadron has electronic systems in place to manage the accounts.

 

The Treasurer will oversee the financial matters of the charity in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing documents (ATC and RAF) and legal requirements, and report to the Chairman and the committee at regular intervals about the financial health of the squadron. You will work closely with other members of the committee and ACO adult staff to safeguard the squadron’s finances. This role will suit someone of accountancy and book-keeping experience.

 

Time commitment: Quarterly meetings with the committee. On-going account management (several hours per week). Preparing the end of year accounts and Gift Aid submissions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • General financial oversight (oversee accounts, bank statements, invoices paid, ensure compliance is met)

  • Funding / fundraising (strategy, compile with legislations, monitor and report)

  • Financial planning and budgeting (present financial forecasts based on actual spend)

  • Financial reporting (summary of receipts & payments, submission of RAF accounts form 60)

  • Banking, book keeping and record keeping (manage account, petty cash, keep proper records/docs)

 

In all of these areas the Treasurer is responsible for ensuring that an effective financial system and procedure has been established in line with best practice and legal requirements.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience of current and fundraising finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations;

  • Knowledge of book keeping and financial management;

  • Good financial analysis skills;

  • Be familiar with internet banking procedures;

  • Ability to communicate clearly;

  • Volunteers must be aged 21 or over and NOT: have a criminal record, been declared bankrupt, or been removed from trusteeship.

  • An Air Cadet provided DBS will required by filling out some forms and undergoing an ID check.

 

To commence ASAP and ideally to commit for at least 1 year.
