Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre - RASASC Guildford

Our Helpline Volunteers provide a listening and support service to survivors of rape and sexual abuse who call our helpline Monday-Thursday 7:30pm-9:30pm.

The role is currently done remotely from home due to COVID-19. You must have a safe, secure, and undisturbed space where you can take calls and not be overheard. In the future the helpline aims to return to operate from the office in Guildford, so volunteers will need to be able to travel to the office eventually for their shifts (there is no date planned for this at present.

What are we looking for?

If so, you could join our team, as a Helpline Volunteer. No previous experience or qualifications are necessary.

All volunteers must be able to:

• Volunteer for one shift every two weeks, with each shift lasting 2.5 hours (7.15pm to 9.45pm)
• Attend a bi-monthly group clinical supervision evening from 7pm to 9pm
• The alternate months are 1:1 phone conversation with the supervisor
• Commit to volunteering for at least 18 months, given the significant amount of training involved.

Please note that this post is open to female applicants only, as being female is deemed to be a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, (Part 1) of the Equality Act 2010.

Unfortunately this volunteer opportunity is not suitable for University students who are only available in term time.

What can we offer?

We give all our Helpline Volunteers extensive training to prepare them for the role. Once your training is completed, you will be supported by regular supervision, including a monthly group session, and ongoing training.

Our next training programme dates are:

16th October (Sunday) 9:45 – 16:00 in person

26th October (Wednesday) 18:45 – 21:00 online

2nd November (Wednesday) 18:45 – 21:00 online

13th November (Sunday) 9:45 – 16:00 in person

23rd November (Wednesday) 18:45 – 21:00 online

You must be able to attend all the sessions.
