Health Walks Coordinator - posted 2/3/2021
Guildford Walking for Health is an Association with a Committee, 5 group walk leaders, and 43 walk leaders, looking after 157 walkers. We are currently under the umbrella of the Ramblers, with walk groups nation-wide, run by coordinators, group leaders and trained volunteer walk leaders, catering to over 70,000 walkers.
You will be the contact with the Ramblers, and your role will be to oversee the smooth running of all the walk groups, promoting the walks, finding new volunteer walk leaders, and to be on the Committee, organising quarterly meetings. Your input in funding applications will be required.
Coordinate five walk groups offering half-hour, and 1-hour long walks, aimed at people recovering from illness, or people wanting to get a bit more active or form new friendships. Your role will be to support walk group leaders. You will be the main contact for communications with the media, walkers and new volunteers and outside contacts.
This is a home-based role, ideally based in Guildford. The coordinator is expected to try and attend a health walk on a rotational basis. Walks start from: Boxgrove Park, Worplesdon, Shalford, Shere, Whitmoor Common.
An interest in talking to and helping people. Friendly, outgoing, good organiser, good motivator, knowledge of using social media to promote the walks. An interest in the benefits of outdoor exercise.
3-5 hours per week, depending how many walks are attended.
The coordinator oversees the smooth running of all the walk groups, promoting the walks and finding enough volunteer walk leaders. Offering regular weekly walks ensure walkers have access to health walks which help establish closer neighbourhood bonds in the different communities, help people get fitter, healthier and make new friends.
Do you pay expenses?
As a voluntary group, we depend on fundraising to pay for promotional materials. If printing and other materials fall within a funding application remit, then expenses can be claimed.

The Walking for Health national programme is run by the Ramblers and their goal is that everyone will have access to a short, free and friendly health walk within easy reach of where they live, to help them become and stay active, and we couldn't do this without all the amazing volunteers that make our health walks possible.
From volunteer walk leaders and assistants, volunteers do a fantastic job in supporting and developing the Walking for Health initiative. I'd love for you to be a part of that too!
Guildford Walking for Health currently has five walk groups in Guildford. The groups are: Boxgrove, Mondays from Boxgrove Park shops; Worplesdon, Tuesdays from Worplesdon Place; Shalford, Wednesdays from the Seahorse Inn Shalford; Shere, Thursdays from the Shere Recreation car park; Whitmoor, Fridays from the Jolly Farmer car-park, Whitmoor Common.
The health walks are aimed at people recovering from illness, or people wanting to get a bit more active. Aug 2020: We are hoping to start walks for people with disabilities, in wheelchairs or using disability scooters, and we need another 10 volunteers to help with this.
Leading walks is a fun way of giving something back to your local community. You will make new friends and discover lovely outdoor places.
