Learning Volunteer (school visits)


The Museum of Farnham (occasionally you may be asked to assist with learning sessions off-site)

Commitment of time

Days during term time (9.30am-2.30pm- usually Wednesdays and Thursdays)

Reporting to

Learning and Participation Officer

Principle Tasks

To help with school visits.

To lead parts of the education sessions, where appropriate.

To interact with children and guide groups around the museum.

To demonstrate activities such as museum trails, observation games and basic crafts.

The purpose of this role

To enhance the learning experience of pupils and teachers.

To make the Museum more welcoming and accessible to visitors particularly families.

To act as an interpreter of aspects of our collections in a friendly and engaging way.

Knowledge, skills and experience that would be helpful

The ability to take a supporting role within the museum learning team and be happy to 'dress up' in costume to deliver a variety of historical sessions.

A friendly attitude.

The ability to communicate with both children and their adult helpers.

Interest or enthusiasm for history and/or enthusing others’ interest in history.

Interest or experience in education and learning.

Experience of working with children is desirable.
