Helpline Volunteer - Office Hours (female only)

Volunteers on our specialist helpline provide essential support to people experiencing domestic abuse.  Based in our Woking office, you will offer immediate listening, emotional and practice support to callers as well as signposting to other agencies. You may help to find refuge accommodation out of area, accessing routes to support as necessary.  As well as taking calls from individuals you will speak to professionals (such as Social Workers and Police Officers) looking for guidance on domestic abuse issues.  Full training will be provided and you will have the opportunity to gain skills and experience as well as being part of a friendly and supportive team of people.

We ask that volunteers are non-judgemental with good communication skills along with a calm and sympathetic telephone manner. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and ideally able to volunteer for a minimum of six months due to the training requirements.  A standard DBS (disclosure and barring service) check will be required as will two references.  As it is essential that the service we offer to callers is of the highest standard, we do only accept volunteers (after training) who we believe have the skills and ability to cope with the demands of the role.

Shifts are from 9am to 1pm and 1pm to 5pm Monday to Friday.  There is some flexibility on time and volunteers are asked to cover a minimum of two shifts per month.

Our offices are based in Woking (parking is available or it is a 20 minute walk from the station).  After completing a period of training, volunteers can then claim travel expenses.
