Cherry Trees (East Clandon)

General building and decorating volunteers

Do you consider yourself handy in terms of building, refurbishment or decorating? Could you please spare a few hours for Cherry Trees at East Clandon near Guildford this September.

We are converting an old, unused bathroom here at Cherry Trees to be a lovely new cosy 'Chill Room' with a sofa and soft lighting, for our night staff to use when watching over our sleeping children or to comfort children who wake up in the night. Most importantly, it will free up a new room as a bedroom, meaning we can offer an additional family vital respite care.

We have the works scheduled for weekdays, Monday 6 September to Monday 20 September. We have a qualified volunteer working with us to lead on the planning, specification and health and safety aspects of the project and have specialist trades lined up for some other essential parts of the job. But to do this cost effectively, we would like to invite volunteers to assist with the main works. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to get stuck in - knowing that the final result will add to the quality of care we can offer our vulnerable children.

Could you assist with some of the following?

  • Removal of old tiling
  • Strip out of bathroom fittings
  • Remove old plasterboard from walls
  • Install new plasterboard to walls
  • Install skirting
  • Making good with fillers
  • Plastering
  • Laying floorboards/flooring
  • Removal of rubbish to a skip
  • Decorating

If you or your contacts could spare a few hours, please get in touch as soon as possible via fundraising@cherrytrees.org.uk.  We will provide all equipment and lots of tea and coffee!!!

We also have a project at the same time to empty our cellar of a large quantity of old paper files, re-sort, and re-box them into plastic crates for ongoing storage. This means bringing the (very dusty) files up from the cellar, sorting and packing them upstairs and then moving them back to the cellar. It will be hard, grubby work but is vitally important to Cherry Trees. If you and/or a friend could offer some time to do some of this, we would be so grateful. Overall there is about 4-5 days work, but it can be done in chunks, please email fundraising@cherrytrees.org.uk.
