Voluntary Action South West Surrey

Would you like to be a Volunteer Buddy to help others?

Voluntary Action South West Surrey is now recruiting volunteers to provide short-term assistance to people needing a helping hand on a wide range of practical tasks.

The role is ideal for people who have recently been helping others during the coronavirus crisis and wish to continue volunteering thereafter.

Volunteering will typically include: shopping for someone who is housebound, accompanying a person to an appointment, light gardening or simple DIY work, help with food prep or cooking, going for a walk with someone, exercising, for example swimming, form filling or paperwork.

Your volunteering will support Voluntary Action’s team of social prescribers who help people who have been referred to us by their GP or health care professionals.

As well as by people who contact us via our Community Point service that gives details of community activities, social groups, where to get advice, learning opportunities, and so on. Sometimes these people need a little extra help to access these and a volunteer’s support is required.

Full training will be given, including safe working practices between you as the volunteer and the person receiving help, as well as important health and safety advice.

Volunteers receive full support throughout their time being a Volunteer Buddy.

A DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check will be required, which Voluntary Action will arrange and pay for on your behalf. Volunteers will be also covered by Voluntary Action’s public liability insurance. Travel expenses can be reimbursed.

Once you have signed up and have been accepted as a Volunteer Buddy we will use the services you offer to match you with someone when they request some help. We will then contact you to see if you are available.

The volunteering is flexible, so that you can help others while able to continue with other commitments you may already have.
