Learning and Events Assistant (Long Term Volunteer)

Location:                           Box Hill & Headley Heath Countryside  Properties. Based at Warren Farm Barns, Headley Lane, Mickleham, Nr Dorking.

                                 

Report to:                          Learning and Events Officer

 

Anticipated

Volunteer Hours:              Up to 30 hours per week. Mon - Fri

 

Anticipated Length

of Contract:                       12 months

               

 

Role Summary:

 

To engage the hearts and minds of both children and adults through the experience of learning in the countryside, enhance visitor enjoyment and inspire a desire to protect the countryside for the future.

 

To promote life long learning at Box Hill and Headley Heath including; children, youths and adults.

 

You will be keen to learn about designing stimulating and interactive workshops to promote a love of learning about nature and conservation.

Engagement         

  • Ensure high standards of customer care are employed at all times
  • Be creative and imaginative in devising ways to engage with our visitors and local communities
  • Contribute ideas and support for visits and courses delivered on the property
  • Create and make educational resources to accompany workshops
  • Build good working relationships with schools, existing volunteers, Friends of Box Hill, Friends of Headley Heath, Natural England and other parties who have a vested interest in the properties
  • Support the activities of the other Rangers where appropriate

 

Presentation

  • You will project a professional image in your personal presentation and with any verbal or written communications
  • You will learn how to appeal to a wide demographic and adapt your presentation style accordingly

 

Office Management

  • Assist with booking management, invoicing and scheduling of school parties and room hire
  • Assist with volunteer management systems and back up documentation
  • Help recruit and process new educational volunteers
  • Learn to use NT template systems and assist with marketing literature

 

Health & Safety

  • Working in compliance with the Trust’s Health and Safety Policy at all times, understanding the common responsibility for H&S and promptly rectifying and reporting any issues

  • Outgoing and a good communicator
  • An understanding of British nature and the natural world
  • Cheerful disposition with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Able to work alone or within a team
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage own time
  • Willing and able to work outdoors in all weathers
  • IT Literate

  

Desirable Skills or Experience:

   

  • Innovative, creative personality with a flair for new ideas
  • Visitor management, customer care or marketing experience
  • Experience of working with Volunteers
  • Experience of working with children or young adults
  • Experience of leading tasks or projects
  • Teaching qualification
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum
  • Full UK driving license
