The Spike Heritage Centre (Guildford)


VISITOR WELCOME ASSISTANT

The Spike Heritage Centre is an Edwardian vagrants’ hostel in GUILDFORD which was part of a Victorian Workhouse.

The volunteer role is to receive and welcome our visitors to this local heritage centre. You will support our volunteer Tour Guides and be part of an enthusiastic team.

You will also have the opportunity, if you wish, to contribute to ongoing research, adding to the information given to our visitors.

Full training and support will be given to suit you and additional training is offered including First Aid and Fire Safety Courses.

Hours are flexible and most volunteers commit to a morning or afternoon once or twice a month. All hours are open to negotiation and based around opening times which are

Tuesday and Saturday   10am to 1pm and 1pm to 4pm

We provide refreshments, out of pocket expenses and free parking

Mission Statement

To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Charlotteville and the neighbourhood (hereinafter called ‘the area of benefit’) without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political or religious or other opinions, by associating together the said inhabitants and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisation in a common effort to advance education and provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and other leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.

To establish or secure the establishment of a Community Centre and to maintain the same, whether alone or in co-operation with any local statutory authority or other person or body in furtherance of these objects.
