Surrey Coalition of Disabled People

Tech Angels Needed

A number of organisations are working together on a service called ‘Tech to Community Connect’.

The Tech to Community Connect service, aims to reduce digital exclusion across Surrey.  The service ‘matches’ trained volunteer Tech Angels to people who need some help with digital literacy and/or confidence – either to complete a specific activity or task, or to learn more general skills.  We provide a device (where needed) on long term loan.  In addition, the service connects people with online activity and social groups – helping to reduce loneliness and social isolation.

Our Tech Angels meet the people they are matched with either in-person or by phone/video call and work through a pre-agreed programme with them.  Our Tech Angels all become certified ‘digital champions’ as part of their induction process and have access to a raft of tools and resources.

If you could volunteer for 2 or 3 hours per week, are passionate about helping people, are patient and calm and have good basic digital skills then we want to hear from you!  We are not looking for tech gurus (though we certainly wouldn’t turn one down!) – your people skills are the most important thing that you bring with you to this role.

The people who are most at risk of digital exclusion are those who are Disabled, living with a long term health condition, an unpaid family Carer, people of older age, people and people who are Black or from a minoritised group.  Digital exclusion is a major contributor to loneliness and isolation (and all the health problems that brings with it) and we are determined to do something about it!
