Trustee – Haslewey Community Centre (Volunteer Role)
Haslewey Community Centre
Lion Green, Haslemere, GU27 1LD

About Haslewey

Haslewey Community Centre is a vibrant, inclusive hub serving more than 1,000 local residents every week. We provide a welcoming café, fitness and wellbeing classes, counselling, arts and crafts groups, children’s activities, social groups and essential community services. As both a charity and a community business, every pound we generate is reinvested into supporting local people.

Role Overview

We are seeking a new Trustee to join our friendly and committed Board and help guide the future of Haslewey Community Centre.

As a Trustee, you will support the strategic direction of the charity, working alongside fellow trustees, our Centre Manager and staff team to ensure Haslewey continues to thrive as a much-loved community hub.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to give back to their local community and help protect and grow a vital local resource.

What You’ll Be Involved In

Trustees contribute to the overall direction and future development of Haslewey. This may include:

  • Supporting the delivery of our Three-Year Business Plan
  • Helping guide major projects such as building improvements, sustainability initiatives and service development
  • Contributing ideas and insight to support growth and community impact
  • Optional involvement in fundraising, grant applications, events or community partnerships

Trustees can be as involved as they wish beyond board meetings.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is community-minded, reliable and enthusiastic about supporting a local charity. You do not need previous trustee experience or specific professional skills — dedication, common sense and a willingness to get involved are what matter most.

Any experience in community work, fundraising, marketing, business, health, wellbeing or local services would be a bonus, but not essential.

Time Commitment

  • One board meeting every two months (approximately one hour)
  • One AGM each year
  • Occasional email communication

Most of the role can be carried out remotely. However, board meetings take place face to face and we would strongly encourage trustees to attend these in person where possible. We believe it is important to build strong working relationships with fellow trustees and staff.

Why This Role Matters

Haslewey is at the heart of Haslemere life. From reducing loneliness and improving wellbeing, to providing accessible support and social connection, the centre plays a vital role in the community.

As a Trustee, you will help ensure Haslewey continues to be a welcoming, inclusive and thriving space for people of all ages — now and for future generations.

Mission Statement

We are a non-government funded community centre with a wide range of daily activities to suit all needs. With a warm welcome and lots of fun activities, we strive to offer a place for people of all ages to come and enjoy.

The Haslewey is a completely independent organisation and a registered charity that runs as a business. To enable us to continue to benefit the local community, we are heavily dependent on income we generate from our services and events.
