Volunteer Assessor Role - Posted 15/06/2021
Assessing clients to establish the best way we can help is an essential part of managing and delivering our service.
As an assessor, you will be the first point of contact for clients who approach us for help. You will carry out an initial assessment with the client to identify the best way we can help them. This could be by providing them with information, signposting or referring them to another organisation, or arranging an appointment for detailed advice.
Some examples of what you could do:
- find the information online that explains how to apply for Council Tax Support in a client’s local area and explain it to them
- identify what steps a client can take to resolve their problem with a second hand car
- help a client find and understand what steps they can take to deal with their rent arrears
This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a new challenge and enjoys working with people. The work is very varied and you have a real chance to make a difference in someone’s life. We are looking for someone who can commit to a day (or two half) days a week and we provide comprehensive training and support as well as a very friendly working environment. We will also cover your travel expenses.

Mission Statement
We help people resolve their legal, money and other problems by providing free, independent and confidential advice, and by influencing policymakers.
We have a town centre location in Haydon Place, Guildford, offering a telephone, and appointment service five days a week.
We use the information we gather carrying out this work to campaign for social justice, so that individuals do not suffer through a lack of knowledge or an inability to express them selves effectively.
We provide an increasingly vital front-line service for those in the greatest need in our local community.
The benefits of our work are not limited to improving our clients’ financial situation but also contribute to improving their health, reducing their stress and improving their confidence in dealing with their own problems.
