Family Support - Family Befriender
The Surrey Parent Wellbeing Service aims to provide early support to parents of children and young people across Surrey who are experiencing poor wellbeing. This may present itself in many ways such as feeling lonely, feeling isolated, feeling unhappy, or anxious, having low mood, or experiencing stress. This can come from a wide variety of situations, including being bullied, exam pressures, not getting on with parents/carers, and peer pressure.
We recognize that parents may also experience anxiety and worries when their child has poor wellbeing. This service will recruit parents/carers as volunteers to take on the role of befrienders and offer peer-to-peer support for new families entering the service on a !:1 basis or in small groups, either face-to-face or ‘virtually’.
Befriender Volunteers work across a range of services, such as children’s centres, parenting services and Child Sexual Exploitation services, supporting children and their families through challenging times in their lives. As a Befriender you will be working with families, on a 1:1 basis with support of our staff teams to provide support to empower families to make a difference in their lives. Befrienders act as a point of contact for families who are struggling with social isolation, or need help to engage with support services.
We are looking for volunteers, with a passion for making a difference in young people’s lives with a friendly and approachable attitude and an ability to engage parents/carers and their children, empowering them to take steps towards improving their situation.
