The Guildford Institute

Guildford Institute Seeking a Honorary Treasurer

The Guildford Institute is a popular local educational charity which promotes and delivers a wide range of social and cultural courses and events to adults in the heart of Guildford. We operate from an attractive grade II listed building and act as a community hub to many local clubs and societies.  We began life in 1834 as a Mechanics Institute and have a long history of delivering educational courses and other learning opportunities to local people who are at the heart of what we do.

We are seeking an Honorary Treasurer with an accountancy background to join our small and dedicated Board of Trustees and to help guide and advise us on financial matters. We have an Institute Manager who, together with her small staff team, is responsible for administration and the day-to-day financial work, utilising QuickBooks for accounting purposes. Termly management accounts are then produced by independent accountants.

As a member of the Trustee team, the Treasurer contributes to the development of strategy and overall direction of the Institute. Whilst finance is a responsibility of all Trustees, the Treasurer’s role is key to its professional oversight on behalf of our charity through the provision of advice on all aspects of our financial management, reporting, controls and compliance.

A role specification is available upon request. If you would like any further information, please contact Amy Rice, the Institute Manager via the details below:
