Citizens Advice Guildford

Adviser Specialising in Debt - Posted 15/05/2021

Giving people the advice they need for the problems they face is one of main aims of Citizens Advice.

As an Adviser you will be talking to clients over the phone or face to face to explore what problems they’ve come to us for help with. You’ll research information and help clients to understand their rights and weigh up their options.

As a result of the pandemic, we are seeing more clients who need help to resolve and manage their debt problems. We are looking for someone to train as an Adviser, specialising in debt advice.

Some examples of what you could do:

  • help clients with debts work out a reasonable amount to pay back, and make a phonecall to an organisation they owe money to.
  • help clients to understand the debt solutions available to them and how to take the next steps.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a new challenge and wants to make a difference in someone’s life. We are looking for someone who can commit to a day (or two half days) a week and we provide comprehensive training and support as well as a very friendly working environment. We will also cover your travel expenses.

We are looking for people from all backgrounds with the aim of our volunteer team properly reflecting the community in which we work.

If you started training to be a solicitor after 1st September 2021, you may be able to include time spent volunteering (or working) in advice giving roles as part of (or all of) your qualifying work experience. See Solicitors Regulation Authority for more information.

Please click on the "Fill in an Application" button and we will get back to you with more information.

Mission Statement

We help people resolve their legal, money and other problems by providing free, independent and confidential advice, and by influencing policymakers.

We have a town centre location in Haydon Place, Guildford, offering a telephone, drop-in and appointment service four days a week.

We use the information we gather carrying out this work to campaign for social justice, so that individuals do not suffer through a lack of knowledge or an inability to express them selves effectively.

We provide an increasingly vital front-line service for those in the greatest need in our local community.

The benefits of our work are not limited to improving our clients’ financial situation but also contribute to improving their health, reducing their stress and improving their confidence in dealing with their own problems.
