Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey

Phone Befriender

About the role

Our volunteers are an essential part of our organisation, enabling us to provide a wide breadth of services to our service users.  By becoming a phone befriender, you can develop your communication and interpersonal skills. You will make a vital difference to the people you contact by reducing their sense of loneliness and social isolation.

Time Commitment

This role requires a weekly commitment at a time to be agreed by both you and our client. We will regularly make contact with you both to see how the relationship is building and would ask you to commit to a weekly call for the minimum of 12 weeks.

In order to ensure a member of staff is available in case of a safeguarding concern, we ask that contact is made Mon-Fri between 9-5.

We are looking for individual who are friendly, patient and have strong listening skills. Wherever possible you will be matched with a client who shares similar interests.

Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey will reimburse expenses incurred through your role. We also hold regular social events and an annual evening event which allows our volunteers to meet each other.

You may be asked from time to time if you are able to support other volunteer roles including one to one support with vulnerable adults. Please be aware that volunteers are required to have an enhanced check via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), and join the DBS Update Service to ensure that regular checks can be undertaken during your volunteering service. Sensory Services by Sight for Surrey would apply for this on your behalf at no cost to yourself.
