Sight for Surrey

Volunteer Wanted Urgently for Sight For Surrey - posted 24.03.2021

We are looking preferably for a male volunteer befriender who is comfortable using zoom or skype for a gentleman who is feeling isolated and lonely and has lost most of his hearing. This referral has come from our Deaf Services team and the gentleman relies heavily on lip reading for his communication and has some very basic sign language. He feels very isolated and would welcome the regular online chats. His speaking is not so clear and will take some time for you to get used to communicating with each other.

The volunteer we are looking for would be:

· Comfortable speaking slowly and clearly to enable him to lip read.

· Desirable if you have experience communicating with someone who struggles to hear. (Lip Speaker)

· Be patient as it will take time to get used to each other and used to his speech

· You do not need to know sign language (Knowing some signs would be a bonus)

If you would like to have an informal chat and find out more please fill in the Application form and we will be in contact. Thank you.
