Gardening with people with learning disabilities
Location: Hindhead, Beacon Hill and/or Haslemere
Hours: Flexible - we understand that volunteers often have other commitments so we can work together to find regular hours that best suit you.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Engaging the people we support in gardening activities
- Facilitating and/or supporting a regular gardening club
- Organising gardening-related activities for the people we support
- Imparting gardening knowledge and skills
We value any new skills and perspectives that volunteers may provide - the people we support enjoy all manner of activities and we're always excited about new opportunities!
- Always treat volunteers with respect, consideration and appreciation
- Ensure volunteers have a clear idea of their responsibilities
- Give volunteers information about the training and support available to help them carry out their role
- Ensure that volunteers are reimbursed for any reasonable out-of-pocket expenses including travel expenses
- Provide volunteers with support through regular meetings or discussions.
- Always treat Whitmore Vale staff, fellow volunteers and service users with respect, consideration and appreciation
- Act in a professional way when representing us
- Act in a way that is inclusive
- Attend volunteer induction and any subsequent mandatory trainings
- Provide as much notice as possible if they are unable to fulfil their volunteering commitment
- Inform Whitmore Vale of any changes in circumstance that may impact their ability to volunteer in accordance with our safeguarding and health and safety policies.
- Be over 18 years old
- Have good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable and punctual
- Have a willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities
- Have a passion for the mission and values of our organisation.

Through supported living and residential care we can meet a wide range of needs, supporting people with a mild learning disability, to those who have profound and complex disabilities.
