David Williamson Trust

Trustee

The David Williamson Trust is a Guildford based long established grant making trust.  We give grants to various local charities from the income generated by our endowment fund investment.  We currently have nine beneficiaries which are involved in training disadvantaged young people in various ways, or self help charities working with adults with a particular health need.

We are seeking an additional trustee to join our board of six.  To improve our skill base we are ideally seeking someone with some legal experience, or knowledge of charity governance, or someone with experience of working in social care/education, but this is not essential.

We encourage our trustees to take responsibility for building a relationship with at least one of our beneficiaries. This gives them the opportunity to understand the project we fund, but also to use their particular expertise to potentially add value to our grant.  We especially monitor the out turn benefits of our grant funding.

Potential trustees need to be someone who can form and maintain good working relationships with both fellow trustees and with managers/project workers within the charities we fund. You will be expected to actively participate in the execution of our mission, and if possible bring new ideas for funding to the Trust.

You will need to attend four board meetings a year.  These are held in Guildford at the home of our Chairman.  In addition you will meet with the beneficiary as and when necessary.

We are a well run organisation, with each trustee fully involved in the governance of our trust.  We aim to give a trustee a sense of achievement, and an interesting and diverse opportunity to explore areas of support within the Guildford community. It is an ideal opportunity for someone who has a limited time commitment to volunteering.
