Health and Safety volunteer

We are a small, friendly charity looking after the historical Puttenham Barn. Guests enjoy a back to basics stay with the support of trained wardens, and benefit from our work to conserve and make the Barn environmentally sustainable.  https://www.puttenhambarn.uk/

Would you like to be part of our volunteer team that looks after the building and ensures it is safe for our guests and wardens? We are looking for someone specifically to concentrate on the health and safety aspects of Puttenham Barn, such as:

  • Ensuring suitable Covid-19 protocols are in place
  • Coordinating with contractors for annual safety checks such as fire alarms etc.
  • Conducting regular health and safety checks

Good knowledge of/ or a keen interest in health and safety procedures for buildings would be beneficial. Would suit someone who is practical and proactive, and confident handling paperwork.

The role would be based mainly at the Barn, on average 1 hour a week during the open season (Easter-Sept) with occasional support during the closed season. Hours can be flexible.

If you are interested, please apply and complete the form alongside this description. We will then get in touch with you for an informal chat. We value all of our volunteers and try to place them in areas of activity that best suit their skills and interests - we look forward to welcoming you to our amazing team!

Mission Statement

Puttenham Barn is run by a small environmental charity called Project Oasis North Downs (POND).

Its mission is to provide simple inexpensive overnight accommodation in a 250 year old barn, in an environmentally responsible way.

It is aimed at walkers, cyclists & people enjoying the surrounding beautiful countryside.

The Barn has many environmental features including solar panels (on its bike shed!), rainwater harvesting & local varieties of apple trees in the garden.

We aim to open at weekends, during school holidays and on as many other nights as we can between Easter & October.
