General Committee Volunteers - Guildford Group
Why we need you?
Bring YOUR skills and interests to the table - make the role your own!
General Committee members join their group, to assist with the general committee work, contribute ideas for fundraising, activities, speakers and share experience with the committee to work at a local level to contribute to the goals of Parkinson's UK.
Local groups are run by volunteers who usually have experience of Parkinson's and are supported by professional staff. The local group network offers friendship and support to everyone living with Parkinson's, their families and carers across the UK.
What's involved?
To help in an ‘all rounder’ role, to support other members of the committee especially during busy periods. This could mean helping to set up and clear up after group meetings to assisting with fundraising events and any activities the group get involved with. We have approx. 8 meetings a year.
When joining the committee, it is preferable that you will take on a specific lead role or responsibility, eg fundraising, membership, organising outings, librarian etc.
What skills do I need?
An ‘all rounder’ with excellent communication skills are essential, as are an empathetic and patient personality. No previous knowledge of Parkinson's Disease is necessary though would be helpful. The ability to talk with people, share ideas and contribute at meetings would be beneficial.
We offer a comprehensive induction to the role and Parkinson's UK.
What will I get out of volunteering?
Volunteers gain considerably from meeting new people, getting involved in events and doing something for their community. Volunteers are essential for making sure our groups run successfully and continue to benefit people affected by Parkinson's in their area.
Bringing your skills to the table! If you have a specific skill you feel can really add value to the group, we would love to hear from you!
