Trustee Role Description - Age UK [Surrey]
Applications are warmly invited from potential volunteers who wish to join our Board of Trustees for our Charity supporting older people in later life.
We do not require previous board experience and very much encourage applicants from across our diverse communities in Surrey who may have skills in any of these areas, though not exclusively:
• Legal Experience
• Income Generation
• The NHS
• Digital Marketing Experience
You would be involved for 3 - 6 hours per month and supported by our Board and Chair of Trustees and CEO with training and development opportunities.
Location: Meetings in Milford, Godalming with visits across Surrey.
As a Trustee you would contribute actively to the Board of Trustees in defining the strategic direction of the organisation, setting overall policy, targets and goals and evaluate the Charity achieving these, working within a governance framework making effective decisions and be accountable to the Charity Commission.
You would attend quarterly Board meetings and, potentially, Committee meetings held twice yearly. Attendance at Board Meetings is in person or remote with Committee meetings attended remotely with papers provided in advance for scrutiny.
You would participate in activities to promote the Charity to our beneficiaries, funders and the wider public, protecting the reputation of our charity and abiding by Age UK Surrey’s policies and procedures.
As a Trustee you will be committed to the aims and values of our organisation and be willing to provide the level of commitment required.
You will be a strategic thinker; think independently and creatively and challenge constructively and courteously and have an understanding of the responsibilities of being a Trustee, setting the strategic direction and delegating operational responsibility to the CEO. Protecting and managing the property of the Charity and ensure the proper investment of the Charity’s funds and ensuring the organisation uses its resources effectively.
You will also be a team player, supporting the staff team as appropriate.
Trustees comply with the Age UK Brand Partnership Agreement and Charity Commission guidance and are also responsible for the financial position of the Charity, ensuring it is operating efficiently and effectively, and delivering on the outcomes defined in its governing document, ensuring compliance to charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation and regulations.
