Dyscover provides support, encouragement and opportunity to people with aphasia, a communication disorder often brought on by a stroke.

Volunteers play a vital role in the activities of Dyscover by being involved in our conversation support groups and courses (which are run by speech and language therapists). We are based just outside Leatherhead and also in Kingston. We also run groups online so would be interested to hear from people who are interested in volunteering remotely.

These groups are designed to increase the member's confidence, self esteem and maximise their communication abilities.

You would be part of a happy, positive and friendly group and would see people really benefit from your help. We offer initial and ongoing training.

What skills do I need?

Be a good listener, sensitive and understanding person.

Happy to share your skills and interests, you will help people regain their confidence. Be available one morning or afternoon a week over 40 weeks a year.

Mission Statement

Dyscover is a charity providing long-term support and opportunities to people with aphasia and their families. Daily sessions are led by professional speech and language therapists and are designed to help people to adjust to living with aphasia. We help our members to develop strategies for communicating, maximise abilities and provide help and support for partners, carers and other family members.
