Content Writer and Editor
Outline is a charity supporting LGBTQ+ communities and owns the website Being Gay Is OK (BGIOK). The website provides helpful resources, guidance, and information on gender and sexuality, creating a safe and accessible online space for the community.
Role Overview
We are looking for a volunteer Content Writer & Editor to research, write, and edit accurate, engaging, and up-to-date content for the BGIOK website. The role is ideal for someone with a keen interest in LGBTQ+ issues, strong research skills, and the ability to translate complex topics into accessible information for a wide audience.
Most work will be done independently, with support from:
- The Service Manager of Outline
- The in-house designer and marketing team of Catalyst Support
Content will also be reviewed by volunteers to ensure it meets community needs. Additionally, a monthly in-person focus group will be held on the last Thursday of each month to discuss key points, gather feedback, and shape content priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, write, and edit content on topics related to gender, sexuality, and LGBTQ+ issues.
- Ensure information is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to a broad audience.
- Collaborate with Outline, Catalyst Support, and volunteers to review and refine content.
- Attend the monthly focus group to provide input and receive feedback.
- Suggest ideas for new resources, guides, and articles that meet community needs.
Skills & Experience
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Ability to research, verify, and synthesize information from credible sources.
- Knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues and sensitivity to diverse perspectives.
- Good communication skills and ability to work independently.
- Experience working with charities or community organisations is desirable, but not essential.
