SSAFA The Armed Forces Charity

SSAFA Volunteer Caseworker - Guildford Area

SSAFA is a national charity helping and supporting those who serve in our Armed Forces, those who used to serve and the families of both. Our network of volunteer Branches and Service Committees provide support to Armed Forces and veterans community.

Our Caseworkers spend their time visiting our clients, often former service men and women, living in their local community. During these visits they provide friendly advice and discuss the support our clients might need. Once the Caseworker has assessed these needs, they will then help clients to access the right assistance, for example financial support.

Volunteering with SSAFA is special because you get to see first-hand the difference you make to people’s lives. As a Caseworker you will work with clients and other organisations throughout each case, keeping everybody up to date with progress and letting them know the outcome.

This rewarding role is an opportunity to offer your time and expertise to benefit those in your community, as well as to develop new skills and meet some inspirational people.

Volunteer Caseworkers are part of a small team and generally work from home. Caseworkers are supported by the Division Secretary and receive local induction training about SSAFA. They will then attend a mandatory Caseworker’s course and receive Case Management System (CMS) database training once they have joined the organisation.

An interview and checking references are part of the recruitment process. Given that any client may be at risk and/or vulnerable/temporarily vulnerable, this role is subject to Disclosure and Barring (DBS) vetting checks.

A forces background is not essential.

Access to a car, IT and report writing skills are essential.

Reasonable expenses are paid as well as a mileage allowance when required to use your own car.
