  • Support the Institute Manager on HR and people development issues.
  • Help ensure compliance with employment legislation and good practice.
  • Act as an independent advisor during recruitment processes where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity.

About You

We are looking for someone who can bring professional HR expertise and a collaborative approach to our Board.

You may be:

  • An experienced HR professional with current or recent practical HR experience.
  • Comfortable providing advice to senior leaders and decision-makers.
  • Knowledgeable about employment legislation and best practice.
  • A strong communicator with excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Passionate about supporting local charities and community organisations.
  • Able to think strategically while providing practical guidance.

Time Commitment

  • Board meetings are held at least four times per year.
  • Additional sub-committee meetings, including People Committee, take place throughout the year.
  • Most meetings are held at the Guildford Institute in central Guildford, although joining online is available.
  • Some additional time may be required for preparation, advice and occasional project work.

What You'll Gain

  • The opportunity to make a tangible impact within a respected local charity.
  • Experience of charity governance and strategic leadership.
  • The chance to contribute your professional expertise for community benefit.
  • Opportunities to work alongside a committed and supportive Board of Trustee and staff team.
  • Reimbursement of reasonable travel expenses.
