Save the Children Shop (Guildford)

Charity Shop Volunteer Guildford

We are a charity shop in the centre of Guildford selling donated clothes, books and bric a brac, together with a small range of greetings cards, to raise as much money as possible for Save the Children. We like to think that we also benefit our local community by providing good value items at a relatively low price; and by helping to recycle and re-use things that might otherwise be thrown away we help the environment too!

We are always keen to hear from new potential volunteers. We may not invariably be able to offer you work at a time that suits you, but in this case we would like, with your permission, to keep your details on file for if and when the position changes.

The work we do in the shop essentially consists of:

  • Serving customers, using a relatively straightforward till and credit card machine
  • Sorting, pricing, and preparing for sale the various items that are donated to us.

We are a small shop, but an extremely busy one with a high turnover, and our volunteers need to be able to work independently in both the above areas within one of a number of small and friendly teams. There's plenty of help available to start you off, and no one ever has to work by themselves

We're open from 10-4 Mondays to Saturdays. Our day divides into two sessions: from 10-1 and from 1-4; and most of our volunteers work for one or more sessions a week on a regular basis, though we have some who work one session a fortnight, and a few “floaters” who don’t have a regular day but will fill in when needed.

It's all very friendly and informal. Volunteers agree among themselves who is going to do what, and breaks are when you feel like one! Tea, coffee and biscuits are there for the taking, and travel expenses are allowable. Unfortunately we are unable to accept any volunteers who are under 18.

If you feel you might like to join us please click on the 'application form' button & complete the short online form & we will be in touch.

Mission Statement

Save the Children exists to do just that - save children. Too many children across the world are still dying because they haven't got enough food or because they can't get treatment for simple illnesses.  Millions are not getting an education and are being exploited and abused.  Save the Children are changing this, partly by working directly with children, and partly by using our experience and influence to persuade governments and others who are responsible for children to do the right thing by them.

We seek out the most marginalised children wherever they are in the world. That means we work in a very broad range of countries, from fragile states like Afghanistan to developed countries like the UK. For more information, see
