Volunteer Mentor - Through the Gate
We are looking for patient, proactive, fair, friendly, assertive and reliable individuals with good communication skills to bring their experiences and insights into the work we do.
Through the Gate is a mentoring service for those being released from prison onto licence into Surrey. Volunteer Mentors will be providing support up to 12 weeks prior to release and up to 12 weeks post release.
We want you to spend time with our service users, taking an interest in their lives, supporting them emotionally and practically through advocacy work and providing some consistency at a difficult time. In doing this you can make a real positive difference.
It is challenging and rewarding work, which helps reduce re-offending and by improving lives, makes our communities safer. It is also satisfying giving time, meeting new people, sharing skills and learning new ones.
If you are thinking of starting a career in the field of social work, criminal justice, substance misuse, debt, advocacy or counselling then you will gain invaluable experience. Or if you are a member of the local community with a little spare time, and would like to help make a difference we would love to hear from you.
An Enhanced DBS will be required. Three days intensive training is also a necessity and must be attended by all volunteers, prior to working with service users.
We are here to reduce reoffending and help keep safe the communities in which we operate.
