Hedge Planting Volunteers Required!

Hedge Planting Volunteers Required!

From now until the end of February 2024 we are looking for volunteers to help us plant native hedgerows at various sites across the Surrey Hills National Landscape.

Hedgerows are hugely beneficial to wildlife. They provide food and shelter for lots of different species and create important wildlife corridors through the landscape. They also provide a range of ecosystem services, such as flooding mitigation and filtration of harmful air pollutants.

Hedgerow planting is also a very mindful activity. You can work independently or as a small team and at the end of the session you will see how much you have achieved, making a difference to people and nature.

If you are an individual, school, community group or corporate group looking for an environmental based volunteer opportunity then please get in touch!

No prior experience is necessary, and all tools and equipment will be provided. Children are welcome if they are supervised by a suitable adult if under 16 years old.

We can host sessions specifically for your group or let you know about public open days.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Mission Statement

Surrey Hills Society - Discover and help conserve our National landscape The Surrey Hills Society is an independent charity formed 15 years ago.  It promotes the positive enjoyment and care of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is in the course of being rebranded as one of the UK’s National Landscapes. We encourage those who live, work in, or visit the area to explore and learn about the special qualities and distinctiveness of the area.  The Society also uses its extensive network to actively promote the conservation and enjoyment of the Surrey Hills.

In June 2019 the Society was presented with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service which is the highest award for volunteer groups to recognise outstanding work done in their communities and is the equivalent of an MBE for voluntary organisations.

Our mission is summarised by four words: Conserve, Inspire, Educate and Enjoy.
