Mentoring volunteer (Domestic Abuse perpetrators)

Role Purpose
This opportunity focuses on our new Surrey Drive Project, a response to domestic abuse that aims to reduce the number of child and adult victims of domestic abuse. Drive implements a whole system approach through intensive individual case management, supported by volunteers, to drive perpetrators to change their behaviour. Volunteers provide practical and emotional support to help individuals set personal goals, support risk management and help people feel more in control of their lives. The role is based in our Woking office once a week with the option of also working in the community.
This is a rewarding role, with many positive outcomes for the participants you will work with. In return for your volunteering efforts we offer specialised training, paid expenses, and high level of support and supervision from a Volunteer Coordinator. Additionally, you will also gain insight into the Criminal Justice Sector and an opportunity to engage with and shadow industry professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Spend time with the participant assisting in activities that are agreed on the initial action plan, for example:

Providing practical and emotional support

Accompanying participants to personal appointments in the community (not transporting but enabling)

Support filling in forms
-
Reminding participants of appointments
-
Helping participants access resources to enable them to achieve their goals

Assist with public protection by reporting any issues related to the participant behavior/actions

Engage in regular supervision sessions with the volunteer coordinator
-
Feedback session outcomes within 48hrs

Actively promote Interventions Alliance values within the work conducted with participants

Maintain knowledge of current working practices within Interventions Alliance that reduces re-offending by attending meetings, as required

Work in a non-discriminatory manner and promote diversity & equality

Attend team meetings and participate in ongoing training activities

Encourage compliance with probation appointments and license conditions

Training Provided

Initial Training: Training led by the Volunteer team and BCSSU department of behavior change, covering safeguarding, mentoring skills, domestic abuse and an overview of DBT and CBT

Ongoing Support: Regular check-ins and support sessions to ensure volunteers are confident and effective in their roles.

Professional Development: Access to workshops relevant to the role.
Commitment

Hours: Minimum of 2 hours per week, with flexibility based on volunteer availability and participant needs.

Duration: Minimum commitment of 12 months to ensure consistency and reliability in feedback collection.
