Adviser
Generalist Adviser
As an Adviser you will be talking to clients over the phone or face to face to explore what problems they’ve come to us for help with. You’ll research information and help clients to understand their rights and weigh up their options.
Some examples of what you could do:
- help clients with debts, to work out a reasonable amount to pay back, and make a phone call to an organisation they owe money to.
- explore what benefits a client might be entitled to and help them complete a benefits application form.
- help a client who has problems with their landlord understand their housing rights.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a new challenge and wants to make a difference in someone’s life. We are looking for someone who can commit to a day (or two half days) a week and we provide comprehensive training and support as well as a very friendly working environment. We will also cover your travel expenses.
We are looking for people from all backgrounds with the aim of our volunteer team properly reflecting the community in which we work.
Valuing Inclusion
Our volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and we particularly welcome applications from disabled people, people with physical or mental health conditions, LGBTQ+ people and people from BAME communities.
Mission Statement
We help people resolve their legal, money and other problems by providing free, independent and confidential advice, and by influencing policymakers.
We have a town centre location in Haydon Place, Guildford, offering a telephone, and appointment service five days a week.
We use the information we gather carrying out this work to campaign for social justice, so that individuals do not suffer through a lack of knowledge or an inability to express them selves effectively.
We provide an increasingly vital front-line service for those in the greatest need in our local community.
The benefits of our work are not limited to improving our clients’ financial situation but also contribute to improving their health, reducing their stress and improving their confidence in dealing with their own problems.
