Title:                          Volunteer Temporary Receptionist – 1 week – 17th – 21st June 2019


Hours:                       For one week only– hours can be job shared and volunteer could work 25 hours or part of week/sharing with another volunteer; hours ideally 10-3pm Good for anyone wanting to learn about or support our work; good for existing volunteers wanting to provide additional support; or those returning to volunteering; also an opportunity to gain office experience or to start volunteering

Location:                   Volunteer(s) needed at our Guildford office (8 mins walk from both Guildford Railway Station or the Friary Bus Station); Rex House, Guildford GU1 4QZ


Role                           To meet and greet visitors to reception, answer the phone and take messages and transfer calls and handling post. Training given.


Duties For Temporary Receptionist:


  • Answer reception phone, transfer messages to appropriate department or take messages


  • Meet and greet visitors to Reception and ask them to sign Visitors Book


  • Offer drinks to all visitors and make them, if required


  • Keep Reception and entrance lobby areas tidy


  • Date stamp all incoming mail.  


  • Distribute named mail and pass unnamed mail to CEO’s office.


  • Frank all outgoing mail and prepare for collection, which is at 4.30pm each day. Training given.


Personal Qualities:

This is a good opportunity for those who would like to help Age UK Surrey for a week and experience working in Reception or to broaden and build on their existing skills whilst volunteering for a charitable cause. Would also suit any current or new AUKS volunteers wishing to learn more about the organisation. A good standard of education, with the ability to clearly articulate, is desirable. A 1 weeks commitment is required. This one-week role can be shared between several volunteers.

This position would suit a friendly, neat, calm, willing and organised person who enjoys meeting people and talking to callers on the telephone with the ability to pass on clear written and verbal messages to colleagues. The role requires two references. Expenses paid: travel to/from office.
