Reconnections - Tackling loneliness in older people in Guildford & Waverley

Reconnections Volunteer

Volunteering with Reconnections is designed to be fun and flexible. We are looking for friendly volunteers to match with local residents in our area to help them connect to local activities, gatherings and events that provide vital social connections and help break the cycle of isolation and loneliness.

We’ll take you through a quick and easy process of training and checks and then match you with a local over-65 based on mutual interests. You will then provide companionship, encouragement and ideas to help them make new friends and enjoy new experiences.

Typically, volunteers will meet or speak with their match once a week but it’s up to the two of you to decide what you want to do together that will support them with their goals for reconnection. You will be supported by a Volunteer Coordinator and Caseworker plus your fellow volunteers, and we will check in with you regularly to share ideas, hear about progress and support you with any concerns you have.

You need to be friendly, approachable, have a bit of local knowledge, be willing to engage with your community and have an interest and motivation to support someone overcome loneliness and rejoin their community.

Mission Statement

Reconnections by Independent Age is a volunteer-led service that supports over-65s in rediscovering their love of life in the communities where they live. We introduce friendly volunteers to residents and connect them to local activities, gatherings and events that provide vital social connections and help break the cycle of isolation and loneliness. Working together with local partners, we create a safe and supportive environment for people to reconnect with their community.

We couldn't run our service without the support of volunteers so please get in touch.
