Group Chairperson

The role description will vary but the following are the key duties of the Group Chair:

  • Chair the Group Executive Committee.
  • Work closely with and support the Group Scout Leader, maintaining effective communication.
  • Work with the Group Scout Leader to encourage the development of Scouting within the Group and as part of the local community.
  • Ensure all members of the Group Executive Committee are fully briefed on the requirements of their roles.
  • Ensure that the Group Executive Committee acts within the legislation applicable to charity trustees.
  • Ensure an Annual General Meeting takes place within six months of the end of the financial year.
  • Maintain effective communication with the District Chair.
  • Be a full and active member of the Group Executive Committee.
  • Promote Scouting within the local community.

When starting out as an Executive Committee Member with the Scouts, you will need to complete some basic Essential Information training for Executive Committee Members and GDPR. This essential training can be done in a variety of ways, ensuring you have a good basic knowledge about volunteering in the Scouts, the role and responsibilities of a charity trustee and some of the key polices you will need to follow while as a member of the Scouts.

The County Training Manager locally to you will also be able to advise who from their team of trainers can support your ,Executive Committee with some additional in depth support.

Mission Statement

1st Stoughton Scout Group has been running since 1909 and has witnessed a variety of changes in the area and within Scouting.

We offer Scouting for young people between the ages of 6 to 18 in the Stoughton area of Guildford. The Group has over a 100 members and provides a varied programme of activities to its members.

The Group is run by an Executive Committee made up of Leaders and non uniform members. They help ensure we bring great Scouting to the young people of Stoughton.
