Eikon - Volunteer mentors,across Surrey. (posted 16.03.2021)

Eikon is a registered Charitable Company based in Surrey.

About Eikon:

Young people are under intense pressure and many are struggling to cope. There is relentless pressure to have the perfect body and lifestyle; 24-hour social media pressure; the ever-present threat of cyber-bullying and overwhelming pressure to achieve at school. These pressures result in anxiety, depression, social isolation, eating disorders, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, poor behaviour and poor attendance at school. There is little support available – many mental health services are overwhelmed.

Eikon’s vision is to develop happy, thriving and resilient young adults who make a positive contribution to society throughout their lives.

We provide timely support to young people in Surrey facing tough situations. We have an excellent reputation and a proven track record built with key partners since our formation in 1995.

We currently work particularly in six Surrey Boroughs: Elmbridge, Guildford, Runnymede, Surrey Heath, Waverley and Woking.

Roles:

We are looking for volunteers to join our team across Surrey, as Mentors.

The roles involve:

•Engaging with young people voluntarily and positively; motivate, inspire and encourage potential

•Listening and supporting young people, showing empathy and understanding, remaining non-judgmental and caring

•Role modelling confidence, honesty, integrity, commitment and sensitivity to young people

Eikon is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment.

You will be required to complete a criminal records check (DBS) and provide two references. Please contact us at: VolunteerAdminastration@eikon.org.uk and we will send you an application form. Then we will meet with you for an informal chat about the role.

Mission Statement

The Eikon Charity supports vulnerable young people in Surrey who have disadvantaged backgrounds and at-risk of crisis. Eikon introduces preventative approaches to ensure issues do not escalate and become life-changing challenges. Many of the young people Eikon work with are on the verge of: homelessness; exclusion from school; committing crimes; getting involved in drug and alcohol abuse; self harming; or suffering from mental health issues or family crisis. Eikon work in Secondary schools, Youth Centres and conduct Mobile Outreach programmes to target hard-to-reach young people.

Eikon aims to create happy, thriving and resilient young people who contribute positively to society.
