The Guildford Institute

Trustee Position

Would you like to become a Trustee of The Guildford Institute, an educational charity that delivers a wide range of social and cultural courses and events to adults in the heart of Guildford?

You would join a committed and enthusiastic group of Trustees who come from a broad range of backgrounds.

At present, are looking for a qualified accountant to join the Board as our Treasurer. We’re also looking for Trustees with a background in quantity surveying, architecture or building facilities. However, these skills are by no means essential and those with an interest in and enthusiasm for the work of the Institute would be most welcome..

Your role as a Trustee would be to contribute actively to the Guildford Institute in shaping the strategic direction of the organisation, contributing to overall policy, defining goals and setting targets, and evaluating performance. You would be working with other Trustees and members of our staff and friendly team to build on ideas within your areas of interest and expertise.

We operate from an attractive listed building on the corner of North and Ward Streets. In addition to the wide range of courses, talks and activities, we host a variety of clubs and societies, a vegetarian cafe, and have a library and archive which contains a renowned and unique local history collection.

The Institute is a registered charity operating as a company limited by guarantee. The Trustees of the charity are also directors of the company. Trustees are not paid for their work, but travel expenses may be met.

The Board meets for two and a half hours every six weeks on Thursday mornings at the Institute’s premises. Meetings are friendly, informal and constructive. Between meetings, Trustees may be asked to advise on specific areas or matters of policy.
