Volunteer Interpreters & Translators
YMCA DLG is recruiting Volunteer Interpreters and Translators with fluency in the following languages:
- Tigrinya (Eritrea)
YMCA DownsLink Group houses around 30 young people each night within supported accommodation in Guildford.
We help young people in housing crisis by providing a safe and supportive place to live. A key worker works alongside each young person to help them create their personal support plan. They work together to overcome barriers and gain confidence. The ultimate aim is to find training, education or employment as well as help them move towards living independently.
The dedication of our fantastic volunteers adds value and power to our work.
This particular team of volunteers would help to facilitates communication between our young people and help to translate documents. It will also be a chance for our residence to work on their English skills.
You could be:
- Facilitating communication in group and 121 sessions
- Translating documents/sessions/paperwork
What we require from you:
Fluency in English and one or more of the above languages
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Cultural awareness and a commitment to professional boundaries
Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding protocols
Emotional resilience and ability to act impartially at all times
YMCA training will be provided.
