Our Bereavement Volunteers offer counselling and emotional support to our bereaved clients in their own homes or in groups. We also provide a monthly information session for new clients to hear about the effects of grief and ways in which Cruse can help them. In the near future we will also be introducing a telephone counselling service.
Anyone can apply to be a Bereavement Volunteer for Cruse. You do not need qualifications or previous experience, but you do need to care about bereaved people and have time to offer.
The core foundation training course has been designed to equip Cruse volunteers with bereavement awareness, skills and knowledge. The next course in this area is being planned to start in September 2019.
In South West Surrey Cruse we are not currently able to offer placements to counselling students. Some areas of Cruse do offer placements and it may be possible to complete foundation training in our area if you have secured a placement in another local branch.
The training consists of three days core training module and two additional days skills practice for delivering one to one support. In order to volunteer for SW Surrey Cruse you will need to complete all 5 days of training.
The dates will be as follows:
7th & 21st September, 5th October, 9th & 16th November
The dates are all Saturdays and will run from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.
The training venue will be The Clockhouse, Chapel Lane, Milford GU8 5EZ (apart from the 5th Oct which is being held at St Johns Church, Stoke, Guildford.)
We do charge to cover the costs of our training, although bursaries are available on application.
Following a selection process, ongoing training and supervision is provided. We welcome men and women of all ages, races, cultures and background.
If you would like to apply to volunteer for SW Surrey Cruse, contact us for an application form.
The Closing date for course applications is 24th May 2019.
