Community Angels (Guildford)

Financial Administrator

Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy, which includes the Community Angels and Street Angels projects, exists to provide support and care for anyone who, for whatever reason, finds themselves in a vulnerable state in our town. We are a small charity but with a visible presence and a big impact. We are supported entirely by voluntary donations and like all charities need to keep a close watch on our finances.

Role: Financial Administrator

We need someone willing to carry out all our week by week financial tasks, such as the bookkeeping associated with our regular income and expenditure, run our online banking and small payroll (3 people), Gift Aid administration and preparation of occasional reports for our Board of Trustees, which meets 3-4 times a year.

What commitment is involved?

We estimate that this role will take no more than an average of 1 day per week. The role is flexible – some weeks you may do a few hours from home, another week may include a meeting with the staff team or a Board member, another you may do nothing at all. You will have a link to our Communications and Fundraising Committee, but will not be expected to organise or take any responsibility for fund raising activities.

Who will you work with and whereabouts?

The majority of what you will do can be done from home. We will provide a dedicated and secure laptop to enable this. From time to time you will need to call in to our office which is based in the YMCA building on Bridge Street, Guildford. This gives you a chance to build good relationships with our small and friendly team of 3 staff: you will report to our Town Chaplain (our CEO), but will also build relationships with the Chair of our Board, and the Board Member responsible for financial affairs (who will work closely with you when preparing reports).

What difference will I make?

As part of a small and friendly local staff team, you will be supporting a large group of around 150 volunteers, to make the most of our resources and ensure we really make a difference to the lives of vulnerable people encountered and befriended by our volunteers.

What support do we provide?

You will have the support of the Town Chaplain and Board members, and the Fundraising Committee as mentioned above. Any business or travel expenses you directly incur will be reimbursable.

Could this role suit me?

Have you had experience in a financial or bookkeeping role?

Do you have some experience of using computer-based accounting systems and online banking?

Can you work independently?

Do you want to make a difference in the local community as part of a bigger group of friendly volunteers?

We would be very happy to informally discuss the role further with you.
