Communications Officer (Content and Story Lead) The Wey & Arun Canal Trust is a charity working to restore the Wey & Arun Canal through Surrey & Sussex.
We are currently seeking a volunteer to become the Communications Officer, leading content creation and coordinating write-up of news stories with a team of volunteers. We need someone who can help our communications and manage our reputation through the press and social media. You’ll be a trusted source of advice to Trustees, Members, volunteers and external partners and contribute to all of our main communications.
Main duties will include helping with: • Coordinate editorial team to agree articles and content to be published in print publications, website and social media channels. • Help the Editorial and Production Assistant to finalise our quarterly members publication and a bi-annual Newsletter sent to external stakeholders. • Edit stories developed by volunteers and write own stories for new campaigns. • Maintain a good working relationship with Trustees and Work-Group leads to understand work that has been done by the Trust, identify stories to be published across multiple channels and assign stories and the taking of photographs by volunteers. • Help to issue Press releases and get coverage in the local / regional press and radio.
The role would suit someone with some prior experience in Communications or Public Relations ideally in the Heritage, Conservation or Charity sectors.
