Positive Placements Mentoring Volunteer
ALL ABOUT POSITIVE PLACEMENTS
Positive Placements is a YMCA DownsLink Group project running in Guildford, Crawley, Horsham, Mid Sussex and Brighton & Hove.
We recruit and train volunteer mentors to support young people on their journey towards education, employment or training.
Who is this project for?
Young people aged 16 – 25 years old, who are NEET (not in education, employment or training) and would like some extra support to achieve their goals.
How does the project work?
Positive Placements is completely voluntary for both mentor and mentee. When we receive a referral form we meet with the young person to see if Positive Placements is right for them and what they need support with.
We then match them with a local volunteer mentor. Both parties sign their mentoring agreement – a set of ground rules for the relationship and they are then ready to meet up at an agreed time about once a week, for up to 1 year.
Together they will identify and work towards achieving the young person’s goals – for example building confidence, improving time keeping, getting a job or accessing educational opportunities.
Where do mentors and their mentees meet?
Mentors meet their mentee at YMCA Guildford or in a public place.
