Citizens Advice Surrey

Honorary treasurer

Citizens Advice Surrey supports the 14 Citizens Advice Bureaux across the County of Surrey by securing funding, sharing experiences and practices, developing county-wide services and representing the bureaux at county level. Each individual bureau ensures residents of Surrey receive information, advice and support to suit their needs in the most efficient, effective manner. In doing so we help to reduce debt, maximise income, minimise stress and anxiety and contribute to the well-being of individuals and communities.

Citizens Advice Surrey is looking for a Treasurer to support its financial activities.

The Trustee Board of Citizens Advice Surrey comprises a Chair and representatives of member Bureau. A Development Consultant and other consultants are engaged as required. There are sub-committees of Trustees, member bureau staff and consultants. All are working towards ensuring the service develops to meet the changing needs of clients and delivers against contracts it holds. The Treasurer attends quarterly Board meetings, annual general meetings and ad hoc development meetings. S/he liaises with the Chair, Consultants, Bureau managers and Bureau Treasurers and ensures that up-to-date financial information is available as needed, that invoices are issued and providers paid as required and that all financial legal requirements are met.

The Treasurer should be an experienced accountant with experience in Charity accounting and knowledge of general and restricted funds. S/he should have experience of an accounting software such as Quick Books and be experienced in microsoft excel spreadsheets and word. The Treasurer would work partly from home and partly from where the accounting system is maintained.

The Board meetings are about 2 hours each quarter during the day and other meeting are about half a day at venues across Surrey (no more 2-3 per annum).

This is an opportunity to make a contribution to Citizens Advice Surrey and help to support the 14 Citizens Advice bureaux across the whole of Surrey and to work closely with a friendly team.

Mission Statement

Citizens Advice Bureaux in Surrey have been exploring ways to coordinate our activities and enhance our service delivery and performance. It was agreed that forming a company limited by guarantee would be the best way forward. So, Citizens Advice Surrey, made up of twelve bureaux, was registered as a charity in June 2011.

Our new structure builds on an already strong relationship among Surrey CAB managers. Through a managers’ forum, Surrey CAB managers have for many years shared information and mutual support to enable them to develop services that address local and county needs, and to develop effective partnerships with other voluntary and statutory organisations.
