CancerConnection Volunteer - CancerConnection

POSITION OVERVIEW
Are you a cancer survivor or have you cared for someone with cancer? Become a CancerConnection volunteer and provide support and practical experience over the telephone to a person affected by cancer. CancerConnection is a one-to-one peer support program that matches cancer survivor volunteers with cancer patients, as well as caregiver volunteers with caregiver clients. Volunteers follow program guidelines while they listen to and support clients over the telephone in matches based on similarity of experience. Ongoing guidance and assistance is provided by CancerConnection staff.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • A cancer survivor who is at least one year post-treatment, or a person who cared for someone who completed their cancer treatment at least one year ago
  • A person, or caregiver for a person, who is living with advanced cancer may also qualify depending on the stability of their health
  • Emotionally able to provide support to others
  • Positive, caring, non-judgmental approach to supporting others
  • Comfortable working with a wide variety of people
  • Knowledge of the Society’s mission, vision, priorities, programs and policies (or willing to learn)
  • Understands and accepts roles and responsibilities of the CancerConnection program
  • Successful completion of all training
  • Completion of a criminal record check

COMMITMENT
1-3 hours/week for a minimum one year
