Help tell the stories of lives changed by war and conflict.

Our five branches are home to unforgettable collections that document extraordinary times.

For more than 100 years - since being founded in 1917 to record the events still taking place during the Great War - we have been dedicated to telling incredible stories that matter, to audiences from across the world.

However, the wellbeing of all of our staff, volunteers and visitors has always been our priority. It is for this reason, and taking into account advice from Public Health England, that IWM has taken the decision to close all of its sites in effect until further notice.

When we reopen we are going to need your help!

As a Discover Volunteer you will be the warm and welcoming face of the museum helping our visitors feel special and valued. You will be able to make recommendations based on their personal interest and provide information to make sure that they get the very most out of their visit.

Discover Volunteers are confident using their initiative, intuition and are proud of being an IWM ambassador. As well as helping visitors explore our exhibits and activities volunteers also welcome school groups and help to point out key facilities, address access needs and highlight our ‘Hidden Gems’. We are looking for volunteers who are friendly, engaging and passionate about the IWM and its charitable message.
