Garden INTERN Volunteer

 

 
 
The National Trust of Australia (Victoria)  is pleased to welcome you as a Volunteer Garden Intern and support you as you gain hands-on experience maintaining and preserving heritage gardens. This is a unique opportunity to deepen your horticultural knowledge, contribute to the conservation of significant landscapes, and be part of a welcoming community. Interns will work alongside experienced garden professionals  and occasionally with registered Volunteers to support seasonal tasks. 
 
Hours are flexible and negotiable to suit your schedule.

This opportunity is ideal for students or early-career horticulturists seeking meaningful, real-world experience in a supportive environment.
Activities could include: 
  • Attend weekly working bees, under the direction of the NTAV representative (various for properties)  
  • Carry out garden maintenance and development tasks.  
  • Work co-operatively with other volunteers to keep the garden at the highest standard practicable within the available resources.   
  • Tasks vary with the seasons, Planting, Presentation, Weeding, Pruning, Raking 
Willingness to adapt procedures to ensure maintenance of heritage aspects of the garden are a must, as is a Positive work ethic.
The National Trust is a not for profit organisation that aims to conserve Australia’s history and heritage for present and future generations. 
As part of the application process, we will ask you to agree to register as a National Trust Volunteer.  Volunteers are required to have a current Working with Children’s Card (free for volunteers) and police check which you can apply for as part of the application process.
