Canines for Therapy Registration - Wilmington
Purpose
The purpose of Canines for Therapy volunteers is to bring joy and light to the community through pet therapy. We currently have pet therapy programs in Wilmington, NC. Recertification is required every 2 years to stay on an active Therapy Team.
Qualifications
- Must complete our 6-week therapy certification course in Wilmington.
- Handler must be at least 10 years of age.
- Dog must have their Canine Good Citizen certification.
- Dogs are not able to be on a raw diet.
Cost
- New Teams = $150
- Includes: Therapy Class, Therapy Manual, Therapy Dog Vest, Membership Letter, Digital ID Card, Background Check, and Volunteer Liability Insurance.
- Additional Handler = $50
- Additional Therapy Dog = $50

- Submit background check information and pay for registration.
- Take the 6-week therapy course.
- Pass the in-house assessment.

Please Note
Class is required for anyone who has not previously participated in the class. If a handler has participated in the class and wants to register with another animal, they can assess with the additional animal without retaking the class. However, if the handler and the new animal are not successful on the assessment after 2 attempts, then the handler and animal must participate in the class. All teams must resubmit a New Team application and update the "Additional Dog" fields.
